Each of the seasons has its own energy reflecting its place in the cycle of nature. When we harness this seasonal energy it helps us to live in harmony with natural rhythms, as our actions compliment the energy of the world around us.
We’re now well into autumn and just incase you’re not feeling it, here are some pointers as to how to get the most out of the season before the energy shifts into the winter months.
In Chinese medicine the element associated with autumn is metal and the autumnal energy is all about letting go, so it follows that the paired organs of the season are the lung and the large intestine, governing both our respiration and elimination.
This relates not only to our physical body and its functions but to all areas of our life, and in preparation for the winter months it is the time of year to declutter and let go of things that are no longer serving us, be they habits, thoughts, possessions or patterns of behaviour.
As in nature, without pruning there can be no new growth and this is a wonderful time of year to take stock of what we’d like to trim back or tend to differently as we prepare to settle into the quiet introspection of the winter months.
