By their very nature kind acts are altruistic and herein lies the key to their magic, as we give we receive. We can all relate to that warmth and connection that we feel when kindness is displayed, whether you are the giver, receiver, or just a witness, kind acts illuminate everyone involved. Science explains this by demonstrating that our brains produce more of the happiness chemical dopamine when we are kind to people, and though the result may be measured in the brain I feel that the impulse resides in our hearts. Kindness is also highly contagious, continually morphing and spreading as it affects more and more people, generating smiles and soothing hearts. Perhaps more challenging and less celebrated, is the ability to be kind, loving and gentle towards ourselves and yet it is the best place to start.
